Japan 2015-7 [Unbuilt] The site is located in a quiet residential area and faces a large rice paddy. The cottage separated from the existing main building is visible beyond the garden, from the gate in the white wall. The cottage stands face to face with the main building across the garden. The double height entrance hall is approached along the open field. There are two bed rooms beside the garden on the ground floor. The north facing living and dining room on the first floor is accessed through the staircase lit up by the skylight in the entrance hall. The garden shined by the sunlight is fully visible with the main building in the background. The structure made of standard timber stands on the concrete foundation. The traditional burned cedar cladding is highly insulating. The natural ventilation through the thermal labyrinth of dense concrete block walls within the structural foundation regulate room temperature. |
