Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition 2003 [Highly Commended] Hopkins Architects Offshore Residences is an experimental prototype model for apartments/housing commissioned for the summer exhibition held by Royal Academy of arts in London. The scheme is the outcome of research on a sustainable and autonomous skyscraper project proposed for Dubai. The towers range in size from 35 to 65 stories in height. The three towers are grouped together to provide mutual support. Individual legs are tapered to provide a range of different sized apartments, reduce wind loading and give the building a graceful appearance. Each facade of the building is modified to suit their particular orientation and to shield interior spaces for privacy. The building is designed to be structurally and environmentally efficient. PV and wind generated electricity would be used to provide power for lifts, pumps and ventilation; It would also be used to drive a desalination plant. |
