London 2019-23 Hopkins Architects The project aimed to create a hotel and residences of exceptional quality. This establishment is situated in a location overlooking three Royal Parks and the grounds of nearby Buckingham Palace, facing Wellington Arch and its surrounding public spaces. The building is designed with simplicity and logical organization, featuring eight levels of accommodation divided into four wings arranged around a central courtyard. The upper levels of the building are set back to create landscaped terraces and beautiful outdoor spaces, providing bar and restaurant areas with leafy views of Hyde Park. Additionally, the underground section comprises five floors, which house a double-height ballroom, facilities for residences, parking, and hotel service areas. The facade is composed of Portland Stone, historically used in London's monuments and major civic buildings, with generously proportioned features that convey a sense of permanence and solidity. Throughout the building, materials have been carefully selected for their warmth, elegance, and tactile qualities. Canopies and glazing are framed in bronze, and the entrance courtyard is paved with handcrafted granite and adorned with Japanese maple trees that are over 125 years old. |
